Experimental investigation of reactive granulation
Original language description
NaLAS is currently the most common anionic surface active agent in detergent industry. Industrially it is being produced by a reaction of dodecyl-benzenesulfonic acid (HLAS) with an appropriate neutralizing agent. For the purposes of reactive granulationis mostly used sodium carbonate (Na2CO3). The chemical reaction is then called dry neutralization since the base is in a solid phase. During dry neutralization in a reactive granulator (often a horizontal axe plough-shear granulator) are sprayed the drops of acid into an agitated bed of Na2CO3 primary particles. The very first step for a development of mechanistic model is a qualitative understanding and quantitative description of the elementary processes taking place during reactive granulation. Theaim of this work is to continue in the reactive granulation experiments carried by Schöngut et al. to distinguish the effect of overall available surface area (i.e. primary particle size) and temperature on reaction kinetics and granule p
