Discrete model of agglomeration and fouling in emulsions
Original language description
This work was focused on disperse systems and their coagulation and fouling. These effects were modeled using the Discrete Element Method (DEM), where each particle is described by its position, velocity and rotation rate. The model contained descriptionof the interparticle interactions with the DLVO theory (non-contact interactions) and JKR theory (contact of elastic adhesive particles). The model contained also the effect of hysteresis during the contact of particles. The model was employed to determine critical values of the important parameters of the system (particle volume fraction, shear rate). These critical values separate parametric regions, where the system either is stable, or coagulates.
