Article analyses development of the refining and petrochemical during the last years (associated with financial crisis started in 2009) which are suffering from low margins, over-capacity in certain regions (esp. Europe), high competitiveness from localand overseas players which results into necessity to re-consider approaches of operation, management and development those business independently from each other. Options of improvement profitability are listed. Case study on Serbian case is commented.
