Electrokinetic phenomena such as electrophoresis and dielectrophoresis are observed when liquid-liquid dispersions are affected by an electric field. These effects can be used to manipulate and address droplets in digital microfluidics. We studied the behavior of water droplets dispersed in oil under the influence of DC electric field. By syringe pumps, we introduced a water droplet into a microfluidic chamber with embedded microelectrodes. The motion of the droplet affected by the electric field was monitored by a high speed camera. To calculate droplet position, we used image analysis in Matlab. Oscillatory motion of the droplet was observed. The oscillation frequency was increasing with growing intensity of the electric field. Also, addition of KClinto the droplet significantly affected the oscillation frequency. We aim to provide a plausible explanation of the observed phenomena.
