    Image Quality Measures Based on Entropy

    The paper is focused on the relationship between SNR, Hartley and Shannon entropies. Novel characteristic called logarithmic sensitivity of entropy is proposed to optimize digital filter design. The best quality of image reconstruction corresponds with the extreme of logarithmic sensitivity of entropy and maximum SNR, of course. The estimation of SNR is trivial but based on knowledge of an ideal image. Nonparametric estimate of Shannon entropy was directly used with original tuning strategy. Novelty of the paper is in the estimation method for Hartley entropy and in the development and application of logarithmic sensitivity of entropy.
