Level Measurement
Original language description
The chapter provides an overview of the functional principles used for level measurement in process vessels. The chapter describes the following groups of level sensors: mechanical level sensors (float sensor, displacers, electromechanical systems, vibration level switches and rotary paddle switches); hydrostatic level sensors; conductivity and capacitance level probes; thermal level switches; optical level sensors; ultrasonic level meter and the low-frequency 3D solids scanner; radar level transmitters (non-contact radar level sensor and radars with guided wave); radioisotope level sensors. There are discussed ways of installation of level sensors into the technological apparatus. Advantages and disadvantages of selected types of level sensors and level switches are summarized. Criteria for selecting a suitable level sensor are provided.
