Human scent analysis on fired cartridge cases from simulated crime scene
Original language description
Shot cartridge cases are often present on crime scenes connected witha shooting and could be useful during the investigation. However, thedactyloscopy prints that usually appear on the cartridges are onlypartial so there are not enough minutiae for individual identification. In this pilot study, we compare the human scent remaining on cartridgecases after shooting with scent samples from different volunteersto find out who loaded the gun before firing. In this experiment, simulated crime scene was prepared and one of our volunteers loadedthe gun. Analysis of the scent remain on cartridge cases was carriedout using two different methods, i.e., olfactronics and olfactorics.
