Characteristics of Pressure and Liquid Holdup Overshoot Following a Sudden Increase of Gas Flow
Original language description
The paper presents results of an experimental study of the hydrodynamics of counter-current packed bed column undergoing a step change of gas phase velocity. The existence of the earlier observed pressure overshoots has been confirmed. The oversh have been observed also on corresponding transient profiles of liquid holdup. The overshoots have appeared for step changes of gas rate from zero as well as non-zero gas rate if the change brings the system close to the flooding. No flooding, temporarily, has been proven to appear and be thus the cause of the overshoots. The magnitude and time of appearance of the overshoots have been evaluated from experimental transient date using a simple two-para obtained results indicates that the probable cause for the overshoot is the extra energy dissipation, needed for the flow redistribution near the gas inlet end of the bed, after the imposed gas velocity chan
