Risks of investing in alternative diesel biofuel production
Original language description
missions of greenhouse gases are still a burning social problem and the objectives aimed at reducing the environmental burden are in line with the “binding targets” set by the EU for this sphere. The largest contributor to such emissions is transport industry. One of the ways of reducing emissions in transportation is the use of non-fossil, preferably renewable, fuels (biofuels). However, this is linked with many economic issues. The objective of this paper is to verify the efficiency of investments in biofuel production using various models. Its authors have analysed factors influencing the calculation of return on investment including impacts on the discount factor for calculation of the net present value (NPV) of such investments. Not only the NPV evaluation was performed but also the sensitivity analysis. Three models have been defined for this purpose.. The purpose of model calculations was not to define precisely the attractiveness of various fuels, but rather to point out risks of higher investments in expensive technologies and productions where raw material resources are not ensured. © 2019 Czech Environment Management Center.
