The Eight-Hour Exhibition
Original language description
The paper looks at Dalibor Chatrný’s Eight-Hour Exhibition, held at the Brno House of Arts on 15 November 1970. The text’s author describes the one-day exhibition (or rather, eight-hour happening) in detail, interprets it, and places it within the period context. This little-appreciated event is one of the most revolutionary examples of the transformation of the exhibition format in Czech art in the late 1960s. Eight-Hour Exhibition also asks important questions related to audience participation and the institutional framework of art.
