The Artist in the Expanded Field

  • Original language description

This paper focuses on Stanislav Kolíbal’s oeuvre from the art historian perspective. Kolíbal is one of the most important Czech sculptors in the second half of the 20th century, his position was confirmed also internationally (last time at the Venice Biennial in 2019). In Czech art, he stands at the beginning of a certain way of working with space. “Expanded Field” means that his work includes broader scale of activities, including in-between zones like exhibition design, commissioned works for architecture od graphic design. The paper also deals with a continually nurtured myth, that Kolíbal’s work is a local variation on Italian artistic movement Arte Povera.
