Various synergetic agents are used to increase the retarding effect of halogen-free fl ame retardant (HFFR) that are added to polyethylene mixtures. The infl uence of an admixture of several of these agents on the properties of smoke (optical density, some composition) has been studied in this work. The CSN EN ISO 5659 method was used for the assessment of smoke optical density. Gaseous products of the burning of polymer composites were characterized by means of spectrometric FTIR analysis. Materials were burned in the air flow under the temperature of 400 °C.
