Original language description
Drug-induced acute pancreatitis comprises only 0.1-2 % of all cases of acute pancreatitis. Because of a lack of evidence they are mostly given in the bigger group of idiopathic pancreatitis. A 79-year-old patient developed acute abdominal pain on the 4th day of taking cefuroxime. We establish the diagnosis of acute pancreatitis at admission by laboratory tests and a CT scan. Since the common causes of acute pancreatitis were during the hospitalisation excluded, we believe that the pancreatitis could be drug-induced. We would like to present to the best of our knowledge a first case of a possible cefuroxime induced acute pancreatitis.
