Latent listener classes and class models in violin timbre
Original language description
Twenty experienced listeners ? violin players (Academy professors and students) assess dissimilarity in timbre in pairs of violin tone recordings. Five sets of violin tones (pitch B3, F#4, C5, G5, D6) were used in the study. All pairs of seventeen tonesfor each pitch were listened and judged by mark from 0 (no difference in timbre) to 5 (most possible difference). The results of listening tests (individual dissimilarity matrixes) were processed using CLASCAL method. Resulting listener classes and classmodels of timbre on five pitches are compared and discussed. One of the differences between classes is the measure of the exploitation of dissimilarity scale by individual listener.
