1990s Revisited: Central European Theatre and the Political

  • Original language description

The international colloquium focused on the situation of theatre in Central Europe during the post-1989 societal transformation and discussed following questions: How can we comprehend and articulate the relationship between theatre and the gradually consolidating, reshaped public spheres during the 1990s? How was theatre’s attitude to the political redefined? How did the theatre aesthetic respond (or fail to respond) to the changing political and social contexts in different European countries? And what role did the so-called postmodernism play in such processes? The colloquium contrasted and compared developments in Polish, Slovak, and Czech theatre. As part of the colloquium, the ongoing research results of Radka Kunderová, who organised the event, were presented in the paper “Challenging Dichotomies: The Political on the 1990s Czech Stages”.
