Quantitative Selected Ion Flow Tube Mass Spectrometry: The Influence of Ionic Diffusion and Mass Discrimination.
Result description
Quantification of trace gases by selected ion flow tube mass spectrometry is achieved from the ratio of the total count rate of product ions to that for precursor ions. Precursor ions are converted to heavier product ions that diffuse more slowly and thus are more efficiently transported to the mass spectrometer. Discrimination occurs against ions of large mass-to-charge ratio in quadrupole mass spectrometers. Both these effects can be accounted for to increase the accuracy of SIFT-MS quantification.
