The ingestion of caustic substances frequently poses problems with both diagnosis and treatment. Stricture formation is the most important complication of corrosive damage to the oesophagus. Use of steroids in corrosive injury in man in second and thirddegree corrosive burns to prevent stenosis is a controversial subject. The two most frequently cited studies have discordant results. The aim of this study was to compare more recent data from the literature and evaluate the usefulness of steroids treatment.

Požití žíravin: Důkazy. Jsou steroidy stále nejvhodnější pro léčbu druhého a třetího stupně žíravého poleptání jícnu?
Czech description
Požití žíravin často způsobuje problémy jak v diagnostice tak léčení. Vznik zúžení je nejzávažnější komplikací poleptání jícnu. Použití steroidů při poleptání člověka v druhém a třetím stupni leptavých popálenin pro zabránění stenóze je rozporuplné. Dvěnejčastěji citovaní studie uvádějí nesouhlasné výsledky. Cílem této studie bylo srovnání nejnovějších literárních údajů a užitečnosti léčby steroidy.
