Microporous and mesoporous molecular sieves for alkylation of toluene with olefins

  • Original language description

Toluene alkylation with propylene and 1-octene was investigated over a number of different zeolites (ZSM-5, ZSM-11, ZSM-12, Beta, Mordenite, zeolite Y), mesoporous molecular sieves (Al)MCM-41, and micro/mesoporous composites. It was shown that the acid strength of acid sites plays an important role in the activation of olefin for the alkylation reaction. The highest conversion in all alkylation reactions were obtained over zeolites exhibiting a high concentration of Broensted acid sites. However, in thecase of toluene alkylation with propylene tha structure of some zeolites induced the formation of undesired n-propyltoluene as a side product. (Al)MCM-41 exhibited lower toluene conversions due to the absence of strong acid Broensted sites, however, theformation of di-alkyl toluenes was substantially limited due to a lower activity of this catalyst.

Mikropórézní a mesoporézní molekulová síta pro alkylaci toluenu s olefiny
