The study of the interaction of human mesenchymal stem cells and monocytes/macrophages with single-walled carbon nanotube films
Original language description
The influence of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) films on two different human cell types (MSC - mesenchymal stem cells (primary cells) and THP-1- monocytes/macrophages cell line) was investigated. We focused our study on the metabolic activity ofthese cells. The SWCNT were impurity free as it was confirmed by Raman and VIS-NIR spectroscopy. No surfactant has been used to minimize the effect of other agents on the behavior of the cells. The results obtained on SWCNT films were compared to those measured on carbon fibers (CF). The metabolic activity of the investigated cell types cultured on SWCNT film was only slightly reduced (about 20%). On the other hand carbon fibers led to much stronger decrease of the cell metabolic activity (about 40%). The cell types under study reacted in cell-number dependent way. The more cells are present, the less metabolic inhibition is observed.
