    The complex dication of the diruthenium(II) compound can be oxidized and reduced in two one-electron steps each. In acetonitrile the odd-electron intermediates{(.mu.-tppz)[Ru(bik)Cl]2}n+, n = 1 and 3, have comproportionation constants of 7x108 and 1x105,respectively. Both exhibit near infrared absorptions, in case of n = 3 the 1640 nm band is attributed to an intervalence charge transfer transition. While the mixed-valent intermediate (n = 3) is EPR silent even at 4 K, the (n = 1) form signal, signifying a diruthenium(II) complex of the tppz.? radical anion.. The mixed-valent {(.mu.-tppz)[Ru(bik)Cl]2}3+ shows a perceptibly broader .nu.CO band, suggesting incomplete valence averaging (partial localization).

    Komplexní dikation dirutheniuové(II) sloučeniny {(.mu.-tppz)[Ru(bik)Cl]2}(ClO4)2 lze oxidovat i redukovat, vždy ve dvou jednoelektronových krocích. Intermediáty s lichým elektronem,{(.mu.-tppz)[Ru(bik)Cl]2}n+, n = 1 a 3, mají v acetonitrilu komproporcionační konstanty 7x108 a 1x105. Oba vykazují absorbci v blízké infračervené oblasti, v případě n = 3 je pás 1640 nm přiřazen intervalenčnímu přenosu náboje. Zatímco meziprodukt (n = 3) je EPR tichý dokonce při 4 K, forma (n = 1) vykazuje signál odpovídající dirutheniovému(II) komplexu s tppz.- radikálovám aniontem. Komplex se smíšenou valencí {(.mu.-tppz)[Ru(bik)Cl]2}3+ vykazujr znatelně širší .nu.CO pás, naznačující neúplné zprůměrování valence (částečnou lokalizaci).
