The effect of supraphysiological doses of creatine on homocysteine metabolism in sportsmen

  • Original language description

One month´s administration of creatine (CR) in the dose of 5 g/day to 11 young men affected their daily amount of CR, creatinine, and thiodiglycolic acid (TDGA) excreted into urine. The probands were divided into 4 groups, according to the amount of CR found in urine, and of folates and of vitamin B12 determined in blood. The changes of folates and vitamin B12 were mutually reciprocal, as well as muscle mass and body fat. Each group utilized CR as donor of one- and two-carbon (1C and 2C) units by meansof homocysteine (HoCySH), folates, and vitamin B12, in different metabolic pathways.

Vliv suprafyziologických dávek kreatinu na homocysteinový metabolismus u sportovců

  • Czech description

Jednoměsíční podávání kreatinu (CR) v dávce 5 g/den 11 mladým mužům ovlivnilo jejich denní množství CR, kreatininu kyseliny thiodiglykolové (TDGA) vylučované do moči. Probandi byli rozděleni do 4 skupin, podle množství CR nalezeného v moči, a folátů a vitaminu B12 stanovených v krvi. Změny filutů a vitaminu B12 byly vzájemně reciproké, stejně jako svalová hmota a tělesný tuk. Každá skupina užívala CR jako donor jedno- a dvojuhlíkových (1C a 2C) jednotek za prostřednictví homocysteinu (HoCySH), folátů, avitaminu B12 v různých metabolických cestách.
