Modification of Co-Mn-Al Mixed Oxide with Potassium and Its Effect on Deep Oxidation of VOC

  • Original language description

Catalytic activity of the Co4MnAl mixed oxide catalyst modified with various amounts of potassium was examined in total oxidation of toluene and ethanol. The prepared catalysts were characterized by AAS, XRD, porous structure, TPR, TPD, voltammetry, Raman spectroscopy and XPS. The highest conversion in toluene oxidation was achieved with catalyst containing ca 1wt % K, while in ethanol oxidation the catalysts activity gradually increased with increasing potassium content up to 3 wt % K, but also increased acetaldehyde concentration. Any reaction byproducts were not observed in toluene oxidation. Catalytic activity in ethanol oxidation is connected with the presence of MnO2 in the catalyst. XPS spectroscopy proved a correlation between concentration surface oxygen and activity in ethanol oxidation. According to XRD and voltammetry measurements, the catalysts with high concentration of potassium comprised some amount of other oxide phase of birnessite type.
