This article concerns the comparison of the effectiveness of (1) post-exposure smallpox vaccination and (2) antiviral treatment with either cidofovir (also called HPMC or Vistide) or with a related acyclic nucleoside phosphonate analogue (HPMPO-DAPy) after lethal intratracheal infection of cynomolgus monkeys (Macaca fascicularis) with monkeypoxvirus (MPXV).

Ve srovnávací studii bylo ukázáno, že protivirová terapie cidofovirem (HPMPC, Vistide(R)) a obdobným acyklickým nukleosidfosfonátem (HPMPO-DAPy), po lethální intratracheální infekci (Macaca fascicularis) opičím poxvirem (MPXV), je účinnější než vakcinace.
