    1-(S)-[3-Hydroxy-2-(phosphonomethoxy)propyl]-5-azacytosine represents a new acyclic nucleoside phosphonate with promissing anti-DNA virus activity. HPMP-5azC diphosphate was shown to be a target metabolite with the long intracellular stability.
