Molecular Switches and Motors in 2-D
Original language description
Coating of various surfaces with self-assembled monolayers of molecular machines (switches and motors) is a promising route toward stimuli-responsible materials. Their physical properties can be repetitively changed using external stimuli. This chapter focuses on systems that are triggered by light, and several different approaches leading to self-assembled monolayers on preferentially flat surfaces will be discussed. Special emphasis is placed on the relation between the type of surface (material, curvature), photoactive unit, and linker that interconnects both components.
