Selective Inhibition of Carbonic Anhydrase IX for Cancer Diagnostics and Therapy
Original language description
Carbonic anhydrase IX (CA IX) belongs to a group of 15 isoforms of the human CAenzymes. CA II isoform is cytosolic enzyme that maintain the balance in normal cells while CA IX expression is largely restricted to cancer cells. This overexpression in solid tumors, coupled with its extracellular presence, suggests its potential utility in cancer diagnostic and therapy. In this project we aim to develop potent, selective CA IX inhibitors featuring a sulfonamide moiety coordinate with the zinc ion in the active-site pocket.
