The study was conducted to evaluate the possible role of the upper respiratory tract as an alternative source of Legionella infection in patients undergoing organ transplantation accompanied by immediate immunosupression. For testing aspirate samples, aroutine DFA method, and a new nested PCR-based assay were used. Based on the results we claim that the influence of the oropharyngeal colonization cannot be certainly excluded in some patients, mainly immunocompromised. This should be considered when providing clinical care to transplant patients

Czech description

Cílem presentované studie je zjistit, zda horní dýchací trakt může být alternativním zdrojem legionelové infekce u pacientů podstupujících transplantaci orgánů spojenou s imunosupresí. Pro testování orofaryngeálních aspirátů byla použita rutinní DFA metoda a nový test založený na ?nested? PCR. Na základě prezentovaných výsledků usuzujeme, že vliv orofaryngeální kolonizace na rozvoj infekce legionelou nelze zejména u imunosuprimovaných pacientů vyloučit a měl by být zohledněn při jejich léčbě
