Autofluorescence of fruiting bodies of the wood-rotting fungus Fomes fomentarius has been observed and is described among native macrofungi for the first time. The strongest yellow autofluorescence with blue excitation was displayed by pith sets, a weaker yellow, yellow-green to yellow-red fluorescence was due to generative hyfae while the weakest yellow-reddish fluorescence was emitted by skeletal hyphae. With green excitation all F. fomentarius cells emitted strong red autofluorescence

Czech description

Autofluorescence plodnic dřevokazné houby Fomes fomentarius byla pozorována a popsána poprvé. Nejsilnější žlutou autofluorescenci při modré excitaci vykazovaly sety, slabší žlutou, žlutozelenou až žlutočervenou fluorescenci generativní hyfy a nejslabší žlutočervená fluorescence byla emitována skeletálními hyfami. Při zelené excitaci všechny buňky F. fomentarius emitovaly silnou červenou autofluorescenci
