Protective Role of Mitochondrial Superoxide Dismutase against High Osmolarity, Heat and Metalloid Stress in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

  • Original language description

Superoxide dismutases (cytosolic Cu,Zn-SOD encoded by SOD1 and mitochondrial Mn-SOD encoded by SOD2), serve Saccharomyces cerevisiae cells for defence against superoxide radical but the phenotypes of sod1 and sod2 mutant strains are different. Our results suggest that unlike the Sod1p protein, whose major role is oxidative stress defence, Sod2p also plays a role in protecting S. cerevisiae cells against other stresses - high osmolarity, heat and metalloid stress

Úloha mitochondriální superoxiddismutasy v obraně Saccharomyces cerevisiae proti vysoké osmolaritě, tepelnému stresu a metaloidům

  • Czech description

Superoxiddismutasy (cytosolická Cu,Zn-SOD kódovaná genem SOD1 a mitochondriální Mn-SOD kódovaná SOD2) chrání buňky Saccharomyces cerevisiae před superoxidovými radikály; fenotypy mutantů sod1 a sod2 jsou nicméně odlišné. Naše výsledky ukazují, že oprotiproteinu Sod1p, jehož hlavní úloha je obrana proti oxidativnímu stresu, hraje Sod2p také důležitou úlohu v ochraně buněk S. cerevisiae proti jiným druhům stresu ? vysoké osmolaritě, tepelnému stresu a metaloidům
