    The role of the slr2034 (ycf48) gene product in the assembly and repair of photosystem II (PSII) has been studied in the cyanobacterium Synechocystis PCC 6803. We showed that YCF48 is a component of cyanobacterial PSII RC-like complexes in vivo and is absent in larger PSII core complexes. The results indicated a role for YCF48 in the stabilization of newly synthesized pD1 and in its subsequent binding to a D2-cytochrome b559 pre-complex. Besides a protein assembly, we show for the first time that YCF48also functions in the selective replacement of photodamaged D1during the PSII repair

    Studovali jsem roli produktu genu the slr2034 (ycf48) v procesu skládání a opravy fotosystému II (PSII) v sinici Synechocystis PCC 6803. Ukázali jsme, že YCF48 je složka komplexů reakčního centra PSII in vivo, ale chybí ve větších komplexech jádra PSII..Výsledky naznačily funkci YCF48 ve stabilizaci nově syntetizované molekuly pD1 a v její následné vazbě ke komplexu D2-cytochrome b559. Kromě funkce ve skládání jsme rovněž zjistili nezbytnost YCF48 apro selektivní výměnu poškozeného proteinu D1 během opravy PSII
