An iterative nonribosomal peptide synthetase assembles the pyrrole-amide antibiotic congocidine in Streptomyces ambofaciens

  • Original language description

The biosynthetic cluster directing the biosynthesis of the oligopyrol antibiotic congocidine was identified. For nine genes from the cluster it was possible to assign specific functions in congocidine biosynthesis, regulation or resistance. Further studies on its biosynthesis revealed that it is carried out by an iterative non-ribosomal peptide synthase that posses several original features
