Use ligninolytic fungi and their extracellular enzymes for the degradation of PCBs
Original language description
Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) belong to persistent organic pollutants in the environment. PCBs are lipophilic compounds which can be easily accummulated by biota and have potential risk for human. They can have negative influence on nerve, reproductive or immune system. Some of the congeners are potential carcinogens. The reduction of PCBs in environment is a general need. The biodegradation of PCBs by white rot fungi in soil or liquid medium has been previously investigated. Identification of the metabolites and in vitro experiments can facilitate the study of degradation process
