Appearance of alarmin HMGB1 in small intestine and plasma of gnotobiotic piglets infected with enteric pathogens
Original language description
One week old gnotobiotic piglets were orally infected with enteric bacterial pathogens S. Typhimurium or E. coli O55. High levels of HMGB1 in intestine and plasma of infected piglets 24 hours after infection correlated with clinical state of piglets (lethargy, anorexia, diarrhea) and severity of infection. Piglets colonized with probiotic E. coli Nissle 1917 kept the values comparable with germ-free controls
