TeO2 center dot PbCl2 glasses: relationship of the preparation techniques to structure and optical properties
Original language description
TeO2+PbCl2 glasses were prepared in Au or Pt crucibles and characterised by Raman scattering, optical absorption, and photoluminescence measurements. The rare earth dopant Pr3+ ion was added in various forms with concentrations in the interval (500-1500wt ppm) and in different chemical forms (metal, chlorides or oxides). The UV absorption edge was found to be very sensitive to the crucible used and to the concentration of the Pr3+ ion and the chemical form of dopant. The preparation in the Pt crucibleshifts the absorption edge to longer wavelengths changing only the color of glasses in comparison with glasses prepared in Au crucibles, whereas the absorption edge(s) of glasses prepared in Pt crucibles are more complex and show one or two absorption sub bands. Upon doping with Pr, the sharpness of the edge increases depending on the chemical form of the dopant, the sharpest edge was observed for PrCl3 dopants.
