Surface Tension Measurement of Small Volume of Liquid
Original language description
The appropriate experimental method of the minimum volume surface tension measurement seems to be a method devised by Furgeson (1924). This method is based on optical observation of liquid meniscus at the open end of the capillary. The theoretical analysis of partial error affect to the experimental precision has been done in this work. Next the possibility of end-tip meniscus planarity measurement is discussed too. It was discovered that, in another case, enough precise interference method is not suitable for planarity measurement at such small surfaces corresponding to the capillary inner diameter. Probably, the main source of systematic error of the original measured data is identified on the bases of this analysis. A new, simple, compact and more highly sensitive experimental optical set-up is proposed to design for meniscus planarity measurement with the Furgeson method.
