In the paper flat plate boundary layer by-pass transition by joint action of surface roughness and external turbulence is investigated. The method of determination of the instantaneous values of wall friction from CTA anemometer by means of the time average skin friction coefficient evaluated from pressure measurement is suggested. The distribution of intermittency factor is evaluated from records of the instantaneous values of wall friction. Estimated onset and the end of the transitional region from intermittency factor is compared with estimation from the distribution of skin friction coefficient.
