Classical nucleation theory for cavitation processes in water

Result description

An overview of the Classical Nucleation Theory (CNT) applied to nucleation in cavitation processes is given. The theory is presented in a general, multi-component form and is applied to cavitation processes in water and aqueous mixtures. The the- ory accounts for several important parameters of the cavitating system, e.g. surface tension, heterogeneous contact angle, con- centration of dissolved gases. Three applications are discussed, cavitation erosion in hydrodynamic machinery, bubble forma- tion incarbonated beverages, and the possibility of cavitation in cerebrospinal fluid.
