Sparse direct solution of large finite element problems
Original language description
This work is focused on methods and algorithms tailored to the direct solution of large sparse symmetric positive-definite linear systems arising from the application of the finite element method in solid continuum mechanics. A sparse direct solver basedon the methods and algorithms proposed in the previous work is implemented in Fortran within the framework of the in-house multi-purpose finite element code PMD. The performance results for several large real-world engineering problems are presented todemonstrate the efficiency of the sparse direct solver?s implementation in comparison to the PMD?s existing frontal solver.
