Visualization study of hybrid synthetic jets
Original language description
A hybrid synthetic jet (HSJ) combines a principle of a synthetic jet (SJ) with fluidic pumping through a valveless pump. This study addresses round HSJs in air. A SJ is also used. The Reynolds numbers are 11,000 (HSJs) and 9,000 (SJs). Five experimentalmethods are employed: visualization (smoke-wire technique), velocity measurements (hot-wire anemometer, Pitot tube), impedance measurements and measurements of the jet momentum. The HSJ achieves 24 % higher pumped volume flow rate than SJ (the maximum volumetric efficiency is 33 %). The overall energy efficiency of the HSJ actuator is 1.8 times higher than that of the SJ actuator.
