    On Dynamics of the Wake Behind a Wall Mounted Finite Length Cylinder

  • Original language description

    Dynamics of the wake behind a finite-length circular cylinder with an aspect ratio 2 is to be studied experimentally. The cylinder, mounted perpendicular to a ground plane, was exposed to a cross-flow with a thin boundary layer developed on the wall. The Reynolds number was 9700. The time-resolved Particle Image Velocimetry technique was used to investigate the dynamics of the wake in two planes parallel to the flow. Particular attention was paid to tip vortices, Kármán-like vortices and arch vortex dynamics in the near wake. Several kinds of vortex streets in the wake were identified and studied.nnn
