Two high-resolution neutron diffractomers dedicated to strain/stress investigations in polycrystalline materials are routinely operated at the medium-power reactor LVR-15 in Řež and are also opened for external users. By exploiting Bragg diffraction optics, good luminosity of the diffractometers and a sufficiently high-resolution (FWHM(.delta.d/d) of the instrumental profile can be about 2x10.sup.-3./sup. at d.sub.hkl./sub.=0.2 nm) permit investitgations of both the macro- and microstrains in the samplegauge volume of several cubic millimetres. For scanning the position and profile of diffraction peaks, both diffractometers use the method of the Bragg diffraction angle analysis. However, a novel complemantary modification of the method of energy-dispersive neutron-transmission diffraction for scanning Bragg diffraction edges can easily be implemented on one of the diffractometers. Both methods permit us to determine lattice spacing changes .delta.d/d with the sensitivy down to 10.sup.
