Astrophysical S factors determined from asymptotic normalization coefficients measured in peripheral transfer reactions.
Original language description
Peripheral transfer reactions can be used to determine asymptotic normalization coefficients (ANC). These coefficients, which specify the normalization of the tail of the overlap function, determine astrophysical S factors for direct capture reactions atstellar energies. This technique is particularly suited for use with radioactive beams. The .sup.10 B(.sup.7 Be,.sup.8 B).sup.9 Be and .sup.14 N(.sup. 7 Be,.sup.8 B).sup.13 C reactions have been used to measure the ANC appropriate for determining the .sup.7 Be(p,.tau.) .sup.8 B rate, and the .sup.14 N(.sup.11 C,.sup.12 N).sup.13 C reaction has been used to measure the ANC required tocalculate the .sup.11 C(p,.tau.).sup.12 N rate.
