    Strangelet search in Au+Au collisions at (sNN)=200 GeV

    We have searched for strangelets in a triggered sample of 61 million central (top 4%) Au+Au collisions at (sNN)=200 GeV near beam rapidities at the STAR solenoidal tracker detector at the BNL Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. We have sensitivity to metastable strangelets with lifetimes of order 0.1 ns, in contrast to limits over ten times longer in BNL Alternating Gradient Synchrotron (AGS) studies and longer still at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS). Upper limits of a few 10-6 to 10-7 per centralAu+Au collision are set for strangelets with mass 30 GeV/c2.

    Pomocí detektoru STAR v BNL na urychlovači RHIC jsme hledali strangelety v trigerovaném vzorku 61 milionů centrálních (0-4%) srážek Au+Au při energii (sNN)= 200GeV v oblasti blízké rapiditě svazku. Naše měření je citlivé na metastabilní strangelety s dobami života 0.1 ns, ve srovnání s hranicí delší než 1 ns získanou ve studiích provedených na urychlovači AGS (BNL) a stále ještě lepší než citlivost analýz SPS (CERN). Horní hranice několika 10-6 až 10-7 na centrální Au+Au srážku byla stanovena pro strangelety o hmotě 30 GeV/c2.
