Strangeness in Nuclear Physics
Original language description
Strangeness nuclear physics plays an important role in contemporary physics since it lies at the intersections of nuclear and elementary partice physics and has significant implications for astrophysics. The added strange hadron, whether hyperon or ati-kaon, introduce an SU(3)-flavour dimension to traditional nuclear physics which enables to study models of baryon-baryon and meson-baryon interactions as well as effective field theory approaches encoding the basic ingredients of QCD at low energy. Essential for a theoretical study of systems with nonzero strangeness quantum number is the expermental ability to collect enough information about the production and properies of strange hadrons and hypernuclei. This could be realized with and advent of modern high-tech facilities and detector systems at CERN, the Brookhaven National Laboratory, U.S.A., the High Energy Accelerator Organization, Japan, the FINUDA experiment, Italy, and the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility in U.S.
