Precipitate microstructure evolution in low-cycle fatigued INCONEL superalloys
Original language description
The critical parts of a turbine made of Ni-base superalloy are subjected to cyclic elasticplastic straining as a result of heating and cooling during start-up and shut-down periods. Consequently, low-cycle fatigue up to working temperature of 900°C is animportant factor in the service life. It is connected with a change of microstructure of matrix and precipitates. Nickel base superalloy Inconel was studied after low-cycle fatigue by exand in-situ SANS. It was found that additional precipitation occursat 700°C. The precipitates are created regardless the application of the mechanical load. Nevertheless, these small precipitates could influence low-cycle fatigue parameters, as indicated by the anomaly at the same temperature. The small (up to 10 nm at700°C) precipitates are highly probably not a second population of ?´. Possible explanations are carbides or TCP phase. The limits of the precipitate phase temperature range were roughly determined.
