The Producti on of Stove Tiles from Oponice Castle
Original language description
Stove tiles are a specific kind of ceramic production. The iconography of front heating walls demonstrates the extension of a certain phenomenon, which reflects mutual contacts. A detailed comparison of the front heating walls decorated with the same scenes and the interdisciplinary research help us to reconstruct economics, trade, contacts, and society in the past. In this article, we present Oponice Castle (Topoľčany district, Slovakia) and its connection with the neighbouring regions based on the largest collection of stove tiles in Slovakia (15th–17th centuries). The selected fragments obtained by castle excavation in 2015–2018 were evaluated by interdisciplinary research. The results of the research allow a comprehensive view of stove tile production in the region.
