The experimentally determined structure of HIV-1 protease complexed with the inhibitor Boc-Phe-.Psi.[(S)-CH(OH)-CH 2 NH]-Phe-Glu-Phe-NH 2 (Ki-0.15 nM) showed extensive hydrophobic interactions and a complex network of hydrogen bonds formed between the enzyme and inhibitor.
