Influence of reinforcement compaction on interlaminar shear strength and dynamic moduli of a laminated carbon-carbon composite.
Original language description
Interlaminar fracture of fabric reinforced C-C composites with different volume fractions of reinforcement was investigated by tensile loading of double-notched specimens. The elastic properties of unnotched specimens were measured by the resonant frequency technique. Dynamic moduli increased with increasing volume fraction of reinforcement. After graphitisation, the shear modulus fell due to 'stress' graphitisation of the matrix resulting in its softening. The interlaminar shear strength yielded maximum values for fibre volume fraction approx. 48 %.
