V článku jsou popsány a porovnány tři základní typy polyethylenu používané pro potrubní systémy: vysokohustotní polyethylen, nízkohustotní polyethylen a středohustotní polyethylen. Vztahy mezi molekulární strukturou, nadmolekulární morfologií, užitnými vlastnostmi a použitím jsou vysvětleny z hlediska současné fyziky polymerů.
