    Novel aromatic azo-containing pH-sensitive hydrogels as colon-specific drug delivery systems were synthesized by a one-step polymer-polymer reaction of two precursors and compared with gels obtained by crosslinking of the precursor with a low-molecular-weight compound. Modeling of structure of both hydrogels was done using statistical theory of branching processes and theoretical and experimental data were compared.
